REVIEWS FROM LISTENERS OF

"MATTHEW GARRISON" CD

(Thank you all for your support and enthusiasm.)

"Matt I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your solo disc. My name is Kevin Freeby I'm a 22 year old bassist from San Diego Ca. I'm good friends with John Dimaggio at Bass Alone and he let me borrow the disc you sent him. Its great. I first heard you on The Heart of Things and liked your playing then I heard the Live In Paris album and was hooked."

"Hey Matt, This is Rich Brown in Toronto. Hope all is well with you. I just wanted to tell you that I think your album is just beautiful, from start to finish. I'm also a huge fan of Arto Tuncboyacian. It's great to hear the two of you together. You should be proud of all the work put into this record."

"Hi Matt, I got your album a few weeks ago and I'd to say that I love it. Honestly, you've got some real soul in that music. I haven't heard something like your album in quite some time. I'm sure you've heard it all before, but I also know that its nice to hear feedback from people who listen to your music. As a bassist I love the album, as a composer I love your album, as a musician I love your album, and as a person and a living being I love your album. Its has such a wide spread of joyous emotions, dense intensity, and such fluidity that sounds/feels right, if you know what I mean. Needless to say, good job man. Thanks for the music."

"Matteo, I just opened your disc, this morning. Wow! It's fantastic. Killer job my friend, and congratulations!"

"Hey Matt, This is Damon Banks (Bass player) dropping you a line to thank you for creating one of the most beautiful records I've ever heard. It's a wonderful piece of art, everybody's playing is Killin', the production and writing is outstanding and I'm glad I found out about it............( I bought it this week )."

"Matthew, I recently bought your CD and I was completely blown away by your excellent musicianship! Your playing is magnificant and truly inspirational. At times, especially your duet (cut # 5), I felt like I was listening to a flamenco virtuoso. Your chordal comping is rich with emotion and taste, and your soloing is masterful. I live in San Franciso and love listening to good jazz when I go running and I know I'll trek many more miles, climbing higher listening to your bass playing. I extend to you the highest complements for your masterful effort."

"So one of my Christmas gifts was your CD-- my family always travels to visit relatives hours away and everyone was really into it. That is a testament because these are non musicians who probably had no idea that it was even a bass- they loved the music. Despite the complexity / musicianship involved i think it hits where it counts- anyone and everyone can feel it. Despite being a bass player i can honestly say that many if not most bass or artist/instrument featured albums are not things i listen to when i really need to listen-- they are more to check out, as technique or research- tunes are backgrounds to display the featured instrument. But this is already one of those unique records for me, the ones you listen to consistently, take with you and give you a feeling or many feelings. Technically you have raised the bar and changed the deal for everyone which is rare but it's used to make some beautiful, artistic stuff and I think that's the real deal. It comes across artist - not technician, and i'm positive it will attract music fans everywhere as opposed to being one of those in the bassist-only market. Hopefully i can see you live sometime soon-- i've usually been about 10 feetfrom you when you've played here in PA (delaware water gap). Thanks and congrats. Evan"

"Just writing to say I love the cd. I bought it when you came to Berklee and I can't take it out of the player! You and everyone sound great and so does the over all recording. Good job recording it! Thanks for the inspiration. Evolving bassist-Carlos Dias"

"Hi Matt, I live in Perth, Western Australia and I just received your solo album, which is, in my humble opinion, the best release from a bassist since Jaco's first album. I only heard about you by chance from my teacher who toured with Trilok and saw you with John McLaughlin.I realise the difficulties involved with independant marketing, but there is a surprisingly large music community in Perth and in the other capitals; and I feel certain that if your CD was made available to the Australian music community, that it would be greeted with much enthusiasm. Hopefully, we will see a few copies in the stores at some point in the future, as I believe you are an unknown force in Australia at this point. Regards, Des"

"Hi; John DiMaggio here.we met last year a the LA NAMM show. I own Bass Alone in San Diego. It's a small hi end bass store. www.bassalone.com I just got a copy of your cd, & I have to say it is the most refreshingly musical project from a bassist I've ever heard. Truth be told, I have not listeneed to a complete cd in one sitting since "Que Alegria"....but yours I did. I play in Hawaii with a JM disciple, Mike Smith, & my own trio here in SD. I've got a project going , my tunes, using a surbahar (bass sitar ) on some tunes. Perhaps we can hook up if you are coming to LA in Jan.I should probably order some of you cd's to sell in the store...until then, thanks for the great music!! John DiMaggio"

Hi Matthew, I purchased your cd at this years "namm."Lets just say your music gives me that feeling when music just knocks you out. Its a very rare thing for that to happen. I really love "family."

Matthew Garrison - Solo CD...now this cat is the total package when it comes to fingers, thumbs, grooves and experimental sounds along with great composing...speed, lockin' it in, great band members that complement each other...among the players include David Gilmore, Gene Lake, Scott Kinsey and Adam Rogers to name a few of many instrumentalists on this CD ! Currently playing in the CD player right now !

Hi Matt, thanks for your recent e-mail ,reference the availability of your new C.D.I have recently received it from Audiophile.I was staggered to hear the level of playing on the disc. As a bassplayer myself ,I was totally knocked out by the incredible dexterity you possess. The benchmark for me in recent times has been people like Alain Caron ,Gary Willis ,Victor Wooten and Marcus. This CD has some superb compositions and melodies as well as some awesome playing. Are you aware as to the level of repect yourself ,Willis and your other contemporaries have over here in the U.K? I don't think so; the scene over here doesn't encourage virtuosos and the music education system doesn't support players in the same way over here. Best of luck , keep growing and please come to the U.K . It's cold ,but you'll be well received , you can bring Willis too, he knows his way around. Cheers, Mark Yates.

Ciao Matteo, I wrote sometime ago for buying your solo album via credit card but it wans't possible, at the end I bought it in 2 copies (one for a bass player fiend of mine) via Audiophile Recs. I'm listening a lot in these days and I found it really HUGE! The compositions are really integrated and the lineup for each piece is almost perfect, and having Kins (I adore his creativity and visionary playing) and part of Lost Tribe as well as Arto really boosted up something that was already great! My absolute favourites: DARK MATTER, FAMILY, SAY WHAT & TIME I hope you get this email as incouraging to go on this way and create your music without any boundary imposed by music business. Go mad, you're doing the right thing! ciao and take care, Claudio Porta

Don't worry about the album promotion everyone who comes to my house gets to hear it !! I find it grows and grows the more I hear it. I haven't got this excited about a bassists solo since Vic's "Show of hands". It is strong not only in the playing but also compositionally, I think the evidence is that this album appeals to non-musicians as well. I wish you every success with it and look forward to your future projects.

hello, Matt- i bought a copy of your cd and ive been enjoying it thoroughly. - its my favorite "bass" cd in a long time mainly because its a "music" cd as much as it focuses on bass- again, congratulations on a new an unique style- you dont sound like everyone else and yet now i feel like if i heard you on something, i could recognize you- thats a complement, believe me. just giving it a humble thumbs up and a lot of respect from a fellow bassist- you're one of the new greats , bro- God bless- Adrian Garcia

Thank you for the prompt service in sending my new cd. I was at amazon.com trying to decide between the new Marcus Miller, some Indian and Morrocan music, breakdancing compilations, or Sade. Then I remembered your interview from Bass Player magazine and found your website. I'm glad I got around to it, the music is fresh and inspirational. I will buy your next one as soon as you release it. Fantastic Job! Mike

Greetings Matthew, I'm a friend of Tony Johnson's; your Global Bass interviewer, and he just recently played me your disc. I really wanted to drop a line of encouragement after checking out your music and then reading some of your thoughts on this site. While I've been listening to you since the McLaughlin days, I didn't have much of an idea of where you were coming from. Kind of a mysterious thing! Obviously a phenomenal player, the contexts that I heard you in were so undeniably John or Joe that I couldn't really get a beat on you. Anyway, outstanding playing, smokin' tunes and very nice concepts. I get the feeling that you can shift gears easily in terms of truly sympathizing with every music. I would love to play with you some day!

hey , MATTHEW GARRISON , how are you going??? I hope quite well.I really enjoyed your album there is so much going on , yet so open , but yet so dense , with an intense undercurrent.....Well thats all you need is another critic,,, Loved your article in BassPlayer Mag. I have your Steve Coleman ,John McLaughlin and Joe Zawinful C.D. recordings . You are Greatly Blessed with the path you' ve walked ,the people you have worked with are so special , God Bless you Matt. Your solo disc is a real adventure . Do you have any of the leadsheets available yet?? Have you been to Australia yet? Do you Have any chordal lessons , or concepts for improvising like a top ten thang . thanks I hope you have great day God Bless you Gavin Forno

Hi, this is a message for Matthew Garrison. I just wanted to write and say that I love your music. You have unbelievable technique and a melodic sense that far surpasses most other bass players (and other instrumentalists in my opinion). I love your playing on the Heart of Things albums, and your own record. Jazz has to progress and it's easy to see that you feel the same way. It's fantastic. I have some music recorded that I'd like to send to you if you are willing to give it a quick listen. I am also curious about the band that Herbie Hancock will have when you go on tour in Europe in the winter. anyway, peace, and best of luck to you. Keep that incredible music coming! -Mikael Tobias

Haslip here! Thanks so much for hooking me up at NAMM with your new recording! It's BAD! YOU BAD! I 've been really enjoying all the music and the production is killin'! Nice record man and I know your having a lot of success with it! Hope all is well with you and sending you all my best man! Keep playing your ass off and making this beautiful music! Now I'm off to do some serious shedding thanks to you! Thanks for the inspiration! Peace . . . . . . Jimmy

Mr. Garrison: Man! Your album is incredible! I wish you would come down to D.C. and do a show (Blues Alley, maybe. Anyway, keep up the incredible work that you're doing and maybe one day I'll have enough money to study with you @ The Collective. Until Then......... Peace & Blessings Adrian G. Clements

Thanks so much for taking the time to sign the cd for me. It's rare that a person of your stature would do that and it means a lot to me. I'm 22 and have not been playing for very long and your solo debut has been a huge motivation for me. I play in a rock/funk band, but my heart is in jazz. Thanks for all the inspiration and for being the immense talent that you are! Chris Howard

That was an incredible show on Tuesday night. I really can't tell you how excited I am for the new record. Your first one is one of my "island" records (if I were ever stuck on an island ond could only have a couple records).. I had heard you on the live in Paris record, and was so excited when I saw that you had released a solo record. Man, what a sound!! Truly original, and just hands down phenomonal. D. C.

Hi Matthew, I recently purchased your CD through Audiophile Imports. Congratulations on a fantastic album. It's the freshest sounding music I've heard in a long time. Regards, Glenn Cannon

Hello Matt, This is Christopher. I just had to write in and tell you that your record is beautiful. The arrangements, compositions, solos, programming, it is all the most amazing stuff I have ever heard. I have to be honest and this is legit, the first time I heard this stuff I actually started to get tears in my eyes. Thank you. Ciao-chrisxxx

I just received your CD at last... I am still digesting it bits by bits... It's WREXCELLENT!!!! To say the least... One of the very best I've heard recently... Heee Haaaa!

Matt, Love your songs man. Hit me with some mo. Can I send you my two finalized songs? Please let me know. So when's the album droppin? Thanks for your inspiring works and, whether it's apparent or not, your commitment to bringing so many people a fresh new view on life through it all. Peace and love, A. A.

I recently purchased your CD from your site. I am a music lover with rather ecclectic tastes and often "take a flyer" - purchase music about which I know nothing. Most times I say "OK" and move on. In this instance - I play your CD every day (in the AM and PM) - one of those rare and sooo exciting moments - I say "YES". What a beautiful and thrilling find.

Your CD sits in the second slot in my player. The first slot holds - for the last 3 months - a Glen Gould recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations. So, your CD always comes at the close of Glen's. From my perspective, Mr. Gould, Mr. Bach and Mr. Garrison are in good company. More sir, more. Profuse thanks............. - Jeff Hasner

I`ve sent you 3 fotos. So, please, send me back that you have it.

In Latvia one of famous man is you. Everybody is talking about you and there is so many people who wants to listen your CD! AMAZING!!! And you have done as crazy, because we are making new music and play it almost every day. So thanks for your intspiration.
